I'm fundraising for...
I relay for my triplet brother, Griffin. He was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was only 2 years old, and after years of treatment, he became a survivor. For 10 years, he lived in that survival. He grew up going to school, playing percussion, building Legos, gaming with friends, and participating in things like Relay For Life. Cancer was always part of our lives, but it never defined who he was. Griffin built community wherever he went, never failing to make others feel loved even in the hardest moments.
When his cancer relapsed 10 years later, Griffin spent the next 3 years fighting an unfortunately familiar battle. He went through relapses, stem cell transplants, CAR-T therapy, hospital stays, rehab, and countless setbacks, but he still found ways to bring joy to the people around him. He dreamed of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse, a future where he could someday give back to kids like him. Griffin passed away at home on July 2nd, 2023, surrounded by his closest friends and family.
I relay because I grew up in this community alongside Griffin. I grew up walking Relay laps, attending fundraisers, meeting other cancer families, and seeing firsthand how much support and research matter. Griffin gave me so many opportunities in life: the opportunity to be his sister, to join this club, and to pursue research driven by his story. So much of who I am today exists because of him.
I relay to honor Griffin, the life he lived, and the people still fighting battles like his. I relay because every child deserves the chance to grow up beyond survival.
